CENTRAL *

drake square

the shopping center is named after the soap actress who opened it back in January; she came from this town herself. there are over ninety shops here: some big brand names and some almost unknown boutiques and thrift shops. there are also a few cafes in case you get hungry during your shopping spree. open seven days a week, it's a great place for a girlie day out. shop 'till you drop!

the honey trap

an illegal after-hours nightclub, it stays open and continues serving drinks well past the legal closing time and into the early daylight hours. it's been built in an old warehouse with thick insulated walls and no windows, so neighbouring buildings are not disturbed by the powerful beat of the music and the flashing strobe lights. it usually has a DJ playing recorded dance music, but occasionally hires live bands, giving them the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience. the club is usually packed; pretty much anyone can get in. you see, the owner is more concerned with making money than staying on the right side of the law. women and friends of the doormen often gain free entrance.

the pool

some people prefer chlorine to salt, and indoor heating to cold sea air. that's why the swimming pool exists. if you want a tan you're better off going to the beach in the summer (or the sunbeds in winter) but the city's swimming pool is the perfect place for exercising... or watching girls in skimpy bikinis. needless to say, it can get rather crowded. however, the pool is large and there's plenty of slides, wave machines and even a jacuzzi.

deadwood college

graduates from Deadwood High School and Heart Lake Boarding School often choose to continue their education right here in the city. the college also attracts many students from other states and even other countries. a lot of students concentrate on having fun more than studying, and even if they have jobs, the tuition fees do tend to rip a hole in your bank account... let's just hope you like your roommate and enjoy living off cheap food!

the skatepark

heaven on a half-pipe; a fairly big skatepark just outside the heart of the city. it offers ramps for not just skateboarders, but for extreme bikers, rollerbladers, anyone on their own set of wheels. there are a variety of ramps around most of the park, with the rest set out for teaching newbies on the beginner ramps. though of course, a lot of the teenagers who hang out here have never been near a skateboard in their lives.

deadwood high school

Deadwood Public High School offered free education for all and had students from a variety of different backgrounds. as with any school, you got your jocks, your nerds, your bullies and your over-friendly teachers... all rolled up into one big concrete building on the wrong side of town. that is, until the day it burnt down. the police still haven't caught the culprit and the students have temporarily been sent to Heart Lake Boarding School until the school is rebuilt. very little remains and what does remain is almost unrecognisable: it's just a burnt-out empty shell surrounded by rubble. a lot of people have been breaking in lately - the Lost Causes in particular. apparently, the danger that what's left of the roof could fall on you is half the fun...

if you're looking for gourmet, don't come to this cafe; if you're looking for a heart attack on a plate, then this is heaven for you. an all day breakfast, sickly-sweet ketchup, astringent malt vinegar and a mug of boiling hot tea or coffee all sitting on a cracked formica table. really, what more could you possibly want?

st. claus' park

when you live in the city, it's nice to be able to escape to the relative peace of the park - to trade cars and concrete for grass, trees and flowers. on sunny days, you'll see people walking dogs, children playing football and seeing who can swing the highest and girls hanging out on the grass chatting and having picnics. in the evening, it tends to be a lot quieter and less cheery, with a few fourteen year old 'rebels' hanging around the park benches, drinking cheap cider they stole from their parents. then late at night and during the early hours of the morning, the place is usually completely empty except for maybe a couple of insomniacs and weirdos walking around. apparently stories of rapists and killers aren't enough to keep them away...

heart lake boarding school

with high academic standards and amazing facilities for sports and the arts, heart lake is one of the most prestigious boarding schools in connecticut - it is rather expensive and scholarships are difficult to obtain. its boarding students live in single-sex dormitories for the school year and have the choice of either staying at school or returning home for the holidays. however, since the fire, the school has also been home to the public high school students who attend during the day and then go back to their own homes at night. some of heart lake's elite students are thrilled to have the new blood, but others think that having poor people being taught with the rich is dragging down the school's already tarnished reputation...

[ ]
aurora avenue

home to the rich and famous, the rest of the city cannot afford what these people have. dazzling mansions and large houses with beautiful lawns occupy the street in smaller numbers than the other neighborhoods. if it wasn't for the extreme cost, people would fight and die to live here.

the beach

sun, sea and sand. that and more is what you can find here at the beach. concession stands line the pier, whose boardwalk leads right to the sand. during the day you can sunbathe on the golden sand or surf in the crystal clear water or you can look into the sky at night on the boardwalk. either way, it's a fun day at the beach. however, in winter, the place is deserted, stormy and altogether less welcoming. best to go there in the summer!

depsin forest

tranquil in the daytime but creepy at night, the forest is the ideal place to go if you want to kill a few hours in the fresh air. with so many old, tall trees packed so close together, you'll have to be careful not to get lost. heart lake students, public school students, university students and the young locals have all been known to come here with large numbers of friends for 'camping trips' -- aka parties, to anyone but their parents. even in the wintertime, they keep their spirits up and use the cold as an excuse to cuddle up to someone. deer and rabbits aren't the only wildlife you'll see here, though - it's said that there are bears...

heart lake

the lake gave the boarding school its name, and it really is shaped like a heart. trees and grass surround the cool, clear waters and many people come here with their friends or families to spend the day having a picnic, swimming or sailing. come here at night, and you'll most likely find teenagers with raging hormones doing questionable things in cars...

the fields

the fields are right outside of the city, which is also home to the local farmers. a lot of crops are grown here, which in turn are sometimes sold to the chefs of bijou and the local supermarket. but the youth of the city has other uses for it - some get kicks out of cow tipping at night. you can always take a simple walk through the fields, but don't let the farmers catch you!
